Not Durable but Simple to use & excellent value for money!
By MuttleyP
Downgrading my 5 star review to 1 star having owned this microwave, or rather 3 of these microwaves, for just under 18 months. The first failed after 10 months when it started to randomly beep whilst not in use and refuse to cook. The replacement provided by Sharp was returned after a few weeks, due to a loud incurable rattle on the inside of the machine whilst in operation. The second replacement (third machine in all) has just died after less than 6 months of light use - more random beeping followed by a totally unresponsive keypad. Aside from the woeful reliability, I stand by the positive usability comments in my initial review, but would I buy again? Oh no....no....no....no. Avoid!================I bought this to replace a Panasonic NN-SD268M "Inverter" Microwave, that stopped working after just 2 years. This Sharp model cost half the price of the Panasonic, but in my opinion, performs just as well, and in some ways it's much better.I was a little hesitant to purchase given the many comments regarding annoying beeping and the lack of a clock, but having used this now for a couple of weeks, I don't find either of these to be a problem. The beeping isn't that different to other Microwaves we've owned, and we have plenty of other clocks in the kitchen for telling the time.Straight out of the box, this microwave was simple to use. It only takes a couple of seconds to punch in manual times and the three Autocook settings I've used so far, have worked perfectly. If simplicity is high on your list of purchase criteria, this is a good microwave to go for. It's quite a bit heavier than the Panasonic which is a plus, as it doesn't slide backwards when the door is opened (unlike the Panasonic). Some reviewers have mentioned that it does move, but I guess that may be down to the worktop it's put on (oak in our case).Couple of things worth mentioning:- the glossy Black finish looks great (the product photo's don't do it justice!), but as with all things black, the dust shows up quickly!- it's quite compact on the outside, but seems very adequate on the inside for everyday cooking (veg, soups, drinks, ready meals, etc)- the outer cabinet gets quite hot when it's on, so putting objects on top isn't a good idea- as the manual states, the door isn't airtight. In practice I found that small amounts of steam escape from around the door if you're cooking something with a high water content (e.g. Jacket Potatoes). Not a major issue for me.I was tempted to give the Microwave 4 stars, but I think for simplicity, value for money and the fact it's a good brand, this model is hard to beat and deserves 5 stars based on my experience to date. I only hope that it's much more durable than the Panasonic, which I should add, I received a full refund for from the retailer concerned, despite it being 15 months out of warranty!

Satisfied Customer
By auntyval
I am delighted with this microwave oven. It is exactly what I wanted - small and efficient. I read reviews before purchasing and noted the comments. Yes it is lightweight and would slide when pressing the buttons but I found a simple solution was to stick four non-slip pads on the feet and now it is perfectly stable. I was not put off by lack of a clock!

Lasted for 17 months
By Clive
Bought it off Amazon in June 2010, lasted for 17 months until it packed up two days ago. Out of warranty (which is 12 months) and Sharp won't replace it. Distinctly unhappy. It hasn't had heavy use (I live on my own). Powers up fine and runs but produces no heating effect whatsoever. Never been dropped or damaged in any way.
