i needed a new iron and had read previous reviews about phillips steam generators, albeit different models and everyone was raving about them. i too can confirm that this iron is brilliant. it cuts through creases and easily cuts ironing time down by at least 50 per cent.it is a bit noisy, i suspect that all steam generators are a bit nosier than normal steam irons but the time saved doing the ironing more than makes up for this minor inconvenience.it isnt too bulky and heats up quickly. i have also ordered a new ironing board but at present am using my old £15 ironing board and it works totally fine however the there is a bit of a puddle on the floor after a big ironing session. overtime i think that the moisture trapped in the material in my old ironing board may begin to smell after a while (hence my decision to go with a specially designed ironing board)the initial outlay does seem a bit extravagant but so far i can confirm that it is worth everypenny!

I read the info and, in particular, I read what Which? had to say about this steam generator. They were very complimentary and they were right to be so.The steamer/iron has performed really well. Even linen and fleecies respond to it.Believe me, I'm relieved. Both the good lady who does most of my ironing and my wife think it is great. Since I recommended it and bought it, you can imagine my satisfaction/smugness/delight that I got it right. Oh, and so did Philips.

Not worth it! Go buy Philips Perfectcare 9230 its amazing

I am now on my fourth steam generator having previously used Tefal. I absolutely love steam generators and they are worth every penny compared to normal irons, however they only seem to last me a couple of years before something goes wrong. Having gone through the cost and inconvenience of having to send it off for repair with Tefals i thought id try a different make and see if they were as good. I spent a lot of time researching and eventually chose the philips 8340. Yes it was smaller and doesnt have the modcons of the tefals but i thought it was worth a try. Unfortunately after a couple of weeks i noticed that water seemed to leak from the base. This was fine initially but quickly turned into needing to place a teatowel under the base otherwise my table would have a pool of water. The iron itself worked fine and did what it was supposed to do so i didnt bother taking it back. However just before christmas the tea towel was now saturated after every session of ironing and i wouldve needed to start using bathtowels to stop the problem so i decided to return it. Lucky for me Currys didnt have a replacement in stock so i was able to choose a different model with the credit. I quickly did a price comparison and found that another Philips Model, Perfectcare 9230 was available. I was a bit hesitant about taking another Philips and was tempted to get another Tefal but unfortunately they were not on offer. However this iron is superb and i cannot find fault with it. The strange thing is that it does not have a temperature gauge to adjust. Somehow it works. I have tried ironing a linen shirt followed by a tshirt that would normally burn if it wasnt on cold and it works perfectly. Also no black marks have appeared on the soleplate where ive ironed something too hot. ITS MAGIC. So do yourself a favour and go buy a Philips Perfectcare 9230 its amazing.
